Flip side of Fray

Finally, all the busy stuff is over for a while, which has its ups and downs. I almost didn’t know what to do with myself after the big Orchids and Onions show on Thursday, as that had consumed me for a while. I’m without all the crazy stress and drive of crunching for shows and freaking about pulling off a performance that doesn’t suck, but without that great excuse to keep my focused, I now must deal with all the little shit I’ve been putting off for months, like catching up on emails, organizing my desk, filing, paying bills, getting my shit in order, basically. And just in time for us to fly out on Wednesday morning, to Boston and then Martha’s Vineyard, where we’ll be spending the Thanksgiving Holiday. I can’t wait for downtime on the island, couldn’t come at a better time, after all the psycho-socializing and volunteering I’ve been doing, I’m ready for an escape. You can see how busy I’ve been, what with not updating my blog for like two weeks (though despite the frenetics, and yeah, I totally just used that word as a noun, I’m rarely away from Twitter and FB). So what did we miss? Not one but TWO columns. First, UNUSUAL SUSPECTS, about motor vehicle profiling and my friend Josue’s big art show at CECUT in Tijuana. Oh, and there’s a video that goes with that one, it’s right here:

And my most recent COLUMN is about this year’s Halloween costume, or maybe more about how our costume wasn’t “really” a costume. ;) I called it WINE SNOBS, and ask the question, what is a snob, really? Or as David put it, “Do you have to like the worst of things in order to not be a snob?”

This weekend I’ve been playing hard, as you might see if you check out the pics I’ve been posting to Twitter and Facebook. Out three late nights in a row, and there’s a party I really want to attend tonight, but undecided, wondering if I should take it easy for an evening. But I have a problem passing on fun socializing opportunities. Such is the burden of being a socialite. Can’t stand the idea of missing out. Still, I can’t think of anything more appealing right now than curling up to watch a movie after I work all day to organize my desk and figure out how to put all this recent stuff I’ve been doing into the right words for my column. Guess I’ll play it by ear, then.
